What the word counter measures

This tool counts words, characters, sentences, and paragraphs live as you type, and also estimates reading and speaking time and keyword density. How reading and speaking time are estimated

Reading time assumes an average silent reading speed of around 200 to 250 words per minute, while speaking time uses a slower pace of about 130 to 150 words per minute to reflect natural speech. These are useful planning figures for blog posts, scripts, and presentations, though actual times vary with difficulty and audience.

Hitting length targets

Word counts come with rules attached: essays and assignments specify a range, meta descriptions and ad copy have tight limits, and many publications want articles within a band. Seeing the count update live lets you write to the target without pasting into another tool. For SEO content, longer is not automatically better; aim for the length that fully and concisely covers the topic.

Words, sentences, and density

The counter treats text separated by spaces as words and uses sentence-ending punctuation to count sentences, which is why unusual formatting can shift the numbers slightly. The keyword-density readout shows which terms dominate your text, a quick way to check you are on-topic without over-repeating. Your text is processed in your browser and is not saved.
